Replication refers to the repetition of a study. For any finding from a single study to become part of psychological science it needs to have the results repeated by others. This is obvious since one of the definitions of science is systematic knowledge. This replication may be a simple repetition of a previously reported study or the new investigator(s) may vary some aspects of the study (the demographics of the sample, the strength of the independent variable, the specifics of the dependent variable, the setting the study is carried out in, and so on) to verify that the phenomena described in the first study can be repeated.
