Pre-Professional Page

Should I consider majoring in Chemistry?  Here is a brief discussion to consider if you're curious.

Are you considering pre-pharmacy?  Well be extra careful to take the correct requirements while here at Bellarmine.  Here is an exact listing, that has been cleared by the University of Kentucky's Pharmacy School, for what to take while you're here..

Are you considering pre-med?  Here is a page to help you make your decision.

Some helpful hints if you do decide on medical school.

Above are pages of topics covered on the MCAT within the Physical Sciences Section and the Biological Sciences Section.  Please note, you may have a very hard time becoming proficient in all of this material by the junior year when you will be taking the MCAT.  Also due to time constraints quite a few of the topics may not be covered completely during the normal semester.  Here at Bellarmine it is our job to help you become a critical thinker by providing a challenging environment to nurture this skill.  Thus we do not "teach to the test".

As a pre-professional student who is serious about getting into medical school you have the ability to use these topic listings basically as a checklist for your review.  I recommend having good general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, and physics texts by your side when you have time to do this.  These four books are all you need.  Go from topic to topic in the course text from the checklist, read that part of the chapter and do some example problems if they are available.  Obviously you should do this during summer breaks.  (You have two before you become a junior.)  During the school year a person simply doesn't have the time, and trying to review all of this material during the winter break of your junior year is needless to say extremely challenging.  Good luck.
