Bloodborne Pathogens

Laboratory workers who have reasonably anticipated exposure to human blood, unfixed tissues, or other potentially infectious materials are covered by the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.

Responsibility for compliance rests with individual departments and includes:
bullet Development of written program often referred to as the Exposure Control Plan
bullet Making the hepatitis B vaccination available to workers with exposure potential
bullet Annual training ; and
bullet Post Exposure Evaluation and Follow-up
The Chemical Hygiene Officer supports departmental efforts in this area by providing:
bullet A Model Exposure Control Plan.
