FAQ for Pen Record, Pen Review, EZ Record,
Track, and Counter.
- All of these programs will run on just about any palm
platform. On some OS5 devices the scroll bar doesn't show up in the help
files. This is a problem with some of the launchers, not my program. If you
experience this, you can get to the scroll bar by running the program from the
classic launcher.
- None of the programs actually read the palm directory
to get a file list. Instead, the file list is stored in a separate PDB file.
There is no means for erasing data files from the program itself. I did this
to keep research students from accidentally erasing important data. I don't
believe any data should ever be erased. You can clear all the files by erasing
the "pERFiles.pdb". Please note, however that ALL access to files is lost
(even those that may still be good). If you have data files you wish to keep,
hot sync your palm, and then save the files (including the pERFiles.pdb) in a
safe and separate directory on your hard drive. Then you can safely erase. If
you want to clear everything, use your file manager program to sort by creator
and look for BT01. Those are all the files associated with pen record and pen
review. If you don't have a file manager that will show the creator, download
Filez from palmgear.com (free).
- If you transfer data to your PC you can use the windows
program Timeline to extract the same kind of analyses as Pen Review. Once the
data are in Timeline you can copy it to excel or your stat package. Use
PDBConverter to extract the data from your files (get it at palmgear.com) and
then transfer the data to a spreadsheet. Copy the column containing the
behaviors and then save that column as a text file with the extension ".DTA"
instead of ".TXT". Don't forget to remove any of the rows that contain
non-behavioral data. Timeline can then recognize the data.
