Distance XY


What is it?: Distance XY computes the distance between any two points in a digital photograph. The image my be in bmp, gif, jpg, or tif format. The X-Y coordinates and distance between the current X-Y coordinates and the previous coordinates are saved in a table that can be transferred to the clipboard.

Installation: Unzip the DistanceXY.zip file and run setup.

Operation: Run the program from the start menu. Navigate to the drive and directory where your image is located and double-click on the file name. After the image loads, click on the picture to indicate the first X-Y coordinate. If a scale is on the screen you may wish to use the scale as your first point, In this way you can convert your data to real distances rather than just pixel counts. As you click more points the distance between each of the points is calculated. When you are finished you can transfer the data to the clipboard and then to Excel or another program for analysis. The figure below shows the program in operation.
