Environmental Last Test Information

NOTE: Make sure you go over all of these including
re-watching the short movies. Some of the material was not assigned in class,
but is an important review for material I did cover (such as the bullet
"Information on Hormone Disrupters") At the very least, consider them to be
outside reading assignments that can be covered in the test.
Presentation on Wednesday (8:00-11:00)
- Your PowerPoint presentation should be run in about 5
minutes. I'll give you a little lead-way if you go a bit over, but we won't be
able to finish the presentations within the 3 hours if I let you go on too
long. Those working in groups should shoot for 8 min. DO A PRACTICE RUN TO
MAKE SURE YOU CAN FINISH IN THE ALLOTTED TIME!
- Both the PowerPoint and your paper are due on
Wednesday. You should submit both by e-mail.
- General considerations for a presentation
- Don't change fonts (or font size). If you do that too
often, your presentation begins to look like a ransom note
(generate your own
here).
- Make SURE that the text is high-contrast. Often, if
you use a picture as a background, portions of your talk will be obscured.
- If you save a graph, do so in GIF format (jpegs blur
a graph). Also, generate the graph in the size you want for use since
re-sizing graphs will often make portions of it unusable (especially line
graphs).
- Pictures should be scaled in a paint package, not
scaled in PowerPoint. Making a really big picture smaller in PowerPoint does
not decrease it's file size.
- Don't use effects like sentences zooming around the
screen, slide transitions, and sound effects. They only detract from your
talk.
- Don't write what your going to say on the screen
(that's for your note cards). Make an outline instead.
- Save a copy of the presentation on your thumb drive
along with any movies, etc. that you need. Make sure the presentation works
on your thumb drive (preferably on another computer).
- Also save a copy on your W drive (just in case).
- Use the thumb drive for your presentation so we don't
have to wait for you to log on/log off. The W drive is only a backup.
- And no, I won't take off for these. They're just good
sense.
- All your base are belong to us.

- Figure on 5-8 pages for your paper or 10-12 if working
in groups.
