Instructions...

  1. Use the lab computers or install on your own system at home. NOTE: If you do this at home your anonymity cannot be assured since you'll have to bring the data files in for me to add to the analysis. If you decide to install on your own system perform the following.
  2. IMPORTANT STUFF TO REMEMBER:
  3. Run the program. The first screen is the personal information screen. ()
  4. The next screen magically and mysteriously appears (). Click on the first file in the list (numbered 01-16) to begin.
  5. The first frame of the movie appears (). Click the "Play" button. The movie will play five times if you don't stop it. If you need more than five chances, click the "play" button again. You don't have to watch the movie more than once, however, if that's enough for you to make your determination.
  6. When the most attractive MALE face is seen, press the "Pause" button (). It doesn't matter if you're male or female, or your sexual orientation. Always choose who you believe to be the most-attractive male.
  7. You can step forward or back one frame at a time using the "Back one" or "Forward one" buttons (). Alternately, you can move back and forth through the movie by dragging the seek bar ().
  8. When you have determined which of the frames has the best-looking male, press the "Use this image as best fit button" ().
  9. You are then asked to click on the next file in the sequence. You don't have to do them in order, but it's easier to keep everything straight that way. Continue choosing the best-looking male. If you prematurely exit the program you will have to begin again from the start (01.avi). When you are completely finished, press the "Finished" button ()
  10. A running tabulation of the data will be provided here once the information is available.

    The Stinky project

    1. You have been provided a clean extra large t-shirt for this exercise. Do not make any identifying marks on the shirt. For the two days prior to the next laboratory you should have your significant other wear the shirt to bed. If possible, they shouldn't shower before wearing the shirt and shouldn't wear any other clothing between the test shirt and their skin. There's no problem with putting another shit over the test shirt, however. If you have no significant other then nobody loves you. In that case, try to get someone from your family to wear the shirt. As a last choice, wear the shirt yourself.
    2. When you bring the shirt in for the lab do NOT put it in a zip-lock bag since the perspiration of even your favorite person will get pretty rank in a closed space. You can use a plastic grocery bag, but don't seal it shut.
    3. Your instructor will provide you with an ID code for the project and will put the code on the shirt tag. Write down this code. Your instructor will also ask you several questions to be entered into a database program you can see that here. A version to use with SmartList2Go can be found here.
    4. You will have two opportunities to find your shirt if you need. If you are sure on the first try, then you don't need to go any further.
    5. Each shirt will then be "graded" as pleasant, neutral, or unpleasant in odor.
    6. Class data will be analyzed and will be available here.
