Politics and Evolution

Why are we such a nasty, war-like, xenophobic creatures? Through most of our evolution we have had to contend with congeneric species with similar ecological, nutritional, and behavioral needs. Indirect competition would not work in many cases, so direct competition (fighting, displacement from the habitat, etc.) would have been the norm. Thus, evolution would have selected for aggression, homicide, and xenophobia. Those species that were most aggressive, mean and nasty would have had an evolutionary advantage (Homo sapiens)

This predisposes humans to war (for whatever reason)
