Mosquito Population Genetics

            At this point all the identifiable larvae, from what was obtained last season, have been identified.  Of the larvae one species is known to carry the West Nile Virus.  Further analysis has been done with DNA extraction, measuring concentration of the DNA using the spectrophotometer, RAPD analysis, and finally a gel to view the results.  I found success extracting DNA from the larvae using a protocol for extracting DNA from molds.  Each trial of extracting has been successful all the way through the use of the RAPD.  I intend to continue this on the adult mosquitoes as well as the pupa that I collected.
