Installing and Configuring Stata
Student note: Stataquest 4 for windows (also
available for the Mac) is not freeware. To obtain a copy of Stataquest, you must
purchase the text "StataQuest 4" by J. Theodore Anagnoson and Richard
E. DeLeon, If you do not have a copy, you can order one by pressing this button:
This tutorial and the data sets assume that you have StataQuest installed on
your system
Put
the StataQuest Installation disk in your A: drive. Then click on the Start Menu
and select "Run"
Type
in "a:\setup" and click OK.
The
StataQuest banner will soon start.
Choose the drive to install to. On a home system, it would probably be C:, try
the W drive for a Bellarmine computer.
Transfer begins (Wait)
Next,
select the drive for your data (Same as the install drive)
An
Icon will be added to the start menu
You are now ready to run StataQuest for the first time...
Click on the StataQuest Icon.

Stata starts. The windowing is less than optimal, as is the text font.

Resize and arrange the windows. It probably makes sense to make the entire
program larger. The "Stata Results" window should be the largest.

To change the font, click on the upper left-hand corner of a window, and choose
Fonts

Then choose a font you like (I'm using Stata 8x12, Regular, 9 points). Click OK

After setting the font and position for each of the windows, choose Prefs
from the main StataQuest menu, then "Save Windowing
Preferences". This will be your settings from now on (you can always change
them again).
Download my data set to your default StataQuest data directory (probably X:\SQData where "X" is either drive C: or W:) by clicking here.
