Goggle Page rankings for topics found on this site.
This is my shameless self-promotion portion of this web. Click on the topics below that are covered on this website. This will bring up the Google search engine. The position of my web pages can then be seen. Sometimes at the top, but if not, the URLs that are above me are often from much larger universities, written by a group of grant-supported individuals.
Google "decides" where a webpage belongs in it's ranking by counting the number of links to that page. It also looks at the quality of the URL that linked to that page. Thus. a page link from the University of Texas is worth more than a link from Podunk Middle School. More on Google's ranking system can be found here.
The only "trick" I used in the following search was to add a "*.edu" postfix to the search. This insures that the search engine only looks at educational institutions. This removes much of the chaff from the search. As an example, consider pheromone versus pheromone site:*.edu. NOTE: Google results change by the day. The comments I've added were for 19 December 2007. If there are no comments, then I was on page 1. Sometimes there are more than one citation on the page.
